Karachi : Sports legends Shahid Afridi and Jahangir Khan will attend an event here at a hotel on February 23, 2024, where their memorabilia and that of other eminent Pakistani athletes will be auctioned. The event is being jointly organised by the non-profits Shahid Afridi Foundation (SAF) and Green Crescent Trust (GCT) to generate resources to provide quality education to deprived and underprivileged, out of school children in Sindh and Balochistan. Both the non-profits joined hands five years back to enrol out-of-school children in Sindh. Together, the SAF and GCT have been jointly running charitable schools in the remote and underprivileged parts of Karachi. The SAF and GCT are operating schools with an enrolment of over 35,000 underprivileged students. The GCT and SAF, both, since their Inception many years back, have built charitable schools in backward and rural parts of Sindh for needy families.
Other eminent sportsmen whose memorabilia will be expected to auctioned on the occasion include Javed Miandad, Jansher Khan, Samiullah, Kalimullah, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Babar Azam. The auction for the noble cause will be held in the presence of 250 plus prominent businessmen and industrialists of Karachi. A special feature of the event will be humorous poetry to be rendered by eminent poets Khalilullah Farooqi, khalid irfan and Hakeem Nasif to entertain the audience.
SAF Chairman, Shahid Afridi, said that his non-profit was fully keen to once again get the fullest support from Karachi’s business fraternity to accelerate the drive to educate children from deprived families. GCT CEO, Zahid Saeed, said that his non-profit had the resolve to work together with committed non-governmental organisations, government agencies, and concerned philanthropists to resolve the issue of out-of-school children in Sindh in the shortest possible time. GCT aims to increase its schools up to 250 with an enrolment of up to one lac underprivileged students by the end of 2025.
