LAHORE: In a major step towards eco-friendly public transport, 11 electric buses have arrived in Lahore from China, with an additional 16 buses expected to arrive from Karachi in the coming days, ARY News reported.
Pilot Project & Inauguration
- A total of 27 electric buses will be introduced in the first phase as part of a pilot project.
- Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is set to inaugurate the electric bus service on February 19.
- The charging station for these buses will be located in Green Town, Lahore.
Bus Features & Future Expansion
- Each electric bus has a seating capacity of 60 passengers.
- The Punjab Transport Department will oversee the operations of the buses.
- The government has also issued tenders for electric bus services in Faisalabad and Bahawalpur, signaling further expansion across Punjab.
Lahore to Get 300 Electric Buses
- The Punjab government previously announced plans to acquire 300 electric buses for Lahore.
- The initiative was discussed in a high-level meeting led by CM Maryam Nawaz, who is overseeing 33 special projects to modernize Punjab’s infrastructure.
