KATI Raises Industry Concerns Over Yellow Line BRT Project with Karachi Commissioner

Yellow Line BRT project meeting between KATI President Sheikh Umer Rehan and Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi.

Yellow Line BRT discussions focus on protecting Korangi’s industrial operations and improving traffic arrangements.

The Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) has raised concerns about the potential impact of the Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project on industrial operations in Korangi.

KATI President Sheikh Umer Rehan led a meeting with Karachi Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi to discuss the project’s possible effects on traffic, utilities and factory operations. Representatives of relevant government departments and infrastructure agencies also attended.

The participants included Project Director Kamal Daiyo, Additional Secretary Aziz and DSP Ahmed Memon. Representatives from the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), Karachi Development Authority (KDA), NESPAK and local bodies also joined the meeting.

KATI Seeks Alternative Routes Before Construction

During the meeting, KATI highlighted concerns over excavation and construction work across Korangi’s industrial areas. The association warned that disruptions to roads and utilities could affect factories, transport and routine business activities.

Therefore, KATI urged the authorities to develop alternative routes and supplementary roads before the first phase begins. It also stressed the importance of keeping all stakeholders informed about construction plans and potential disruptions.

The association said timely coordination among government departments, infrastructure agencies and the business community would help address operational challenges.

Business Representatives Attend Meeting

Several KATI office-bearers and industry representatives participated in the discussions. They included Deputy Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya and former chairmen Zahid Saeed, Johar Qandhari and Junaid Naqi.

KATI CEO Saleem uz Zaman, Senior Vice President Farrukh Qandhari, Vice President Nasir Shaikh and other team members also attended. Ammad represented LATI.

The participants discussed the need to coordinate infrastructure development with the requirements of Korangi’s industrial community.

Follow-Up Meeting Planned

A follow-up meeting will take place in two weeks to review progress on the issues raised by KATI.

The association has called for alternative road arrangements and clear communication before construction advances. These measures, it said, would help reduce disruption to industrial activity during the Yellow Line BRT project.
