KARACHI: The Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), in collaboration with the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), organized a tree plantation drive at the KATI Community Park on Tuesday to mark Earth Day, highlighting the urgent need for collective action against environmental degradation and climate change.

Speaking at the event, Adviser to the Sindh Chief Minister on Environment, Climate Change and Coastal Development Dost Muhammad Rahimoon, said Earth Day serves as a global reminder of the growing threats posed by pollution and climate change. He stressed that environmental protection requires coordinated efforts from the government, industry, and civil society.

Rahimoon said the Sindh government is taking practical steps to promote environmental sustainability, including awareness campaigns and plantation drives. He added that initiatives under SEPA aim to encourage public participation in building a greener and more resilient environment.

Sindh Environmental Protection Agency also supported awareness activities across the province, promoting tree plantation as a key measure to combat rising environmental challenges.

Korangi Association of Trade and Industry President Muhammad Ikram Rajput said environmental protection is a shared responsibility and emphasized that industrial cities like Karachi require active participation from every stakeholder to improve ecological conditions.

He noted that the provincial government has made progress in promoting green energy initiatives and plantation campaigns, while also urging stronger focus on waste management systems, wastewater treatment, and infrastructure development to ensure a cleaner urban environment.

Chairman of KATI’s Standing Committee on Tree Plantation Junaid Naqi stressed the importance of balancing industrial growth with environmental sustainability. He called for policies that support the adoption of eco-friendly technologies and expansion of green energy projects within the industrial sector.

Participants, including industrial representatives, SEPA officials, and citizens, planted saplings during the ceremony as a symbolic commitment to environmental protection and a greener Pakistan.

The event concluded with renewed pledges from stakeholders to continue collaborative efforts for sustainable development and climate resilience in Karachi and beyond.
