Karachi (NNI) — Residents of Union Council 8 (Al-Falah), North Nazimabad Town, have written an open letter to Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, expressing deep disappointment over the party’s poor performance in Karachi’s local governance and failure to deliver on pre-election promises.
The letter points out that Hafiz Naeem’s powerful political campaigns—such as the “Haq Do Karachi” movement, advocacy for the K-IV water project, and efforts for Bengalis’ CNICs and the end of the quota system—had once positioned him as a voice of Karachi. However, since assuming the position of JI’s national leader, his absence from Karachi’s grassroots politics has created a vacuum.
Despite JI gaining control of 9 town administrations in Karachi, residents claim that public services have deteriorated, especially in UC-8 of North Nazimabad, where Hafiz Naeem himself was elected as chairman. Issues such as poor sanitation, damaged roads, and lack of basic civic amenities remain unresolved.
The letter, penned by resident Zeeshan Jafri, accuses town chairmen and local party leaders of neglecting public concerns and failing to uphold Hafiz Naeem’s commitments. It urges Hafiz Naeem to visit his constituency, share practical plans for development, and hold non-performing local leaders accountable.
Residents warn that the people of Karachi have matured politically and will not remain silent if JI replicates the same inaction and blame-game politics seen during past administrations.
“If JI cannot deliver despite having authority in 9 towns, it must introspect whether it deserves the public’s trust,” the letter states, adding that Karachi’s voters had placed their hope in Hafiz Naeem to bring about real change—not more excuses.
