KARACHI: A Karachi court on Saturday remanded alleged drug queenpin Anmol alias Pinky in police custody until May 22 in a narcotics case registered under the Sindh Control of Narcotic Substances Act.

Police arrested Anmol earlier this week from her apartment in Karachi in connection with narcotics and illegal weapon cases.

Authorities had already booked her in several criminal cases before the latest arrest.

Court Approves Six-Day Physical Remand

The suspect appeared before Special Sunday Magistrate Abdul Sattar in Karachi Central.

The case was registered at the Specialised Investigation Unit police station.

Police requested a 14-day physical remand. However, the court approved six days of police custody.

According to the court order, the judge found the investigation officer’s request “cogent and reasonable”.

During the hearing, Anmol claimed police arrested her in the case on May 15 and alleged mistreatment during custody.

The judge directed the investigation officer to arrange her medical examination through a woman medico-legal officer.

Courts Reject Police Custody in 13 Other Cases

Separately, another magistrate granted police a two-day remand in a murder case registered at the Baghdadi Police Station.

Meanwhile, courts denied police requests for physical custody in 13 other cases and instead sent the suspect on judicial remand.

Earlier in the day, magistrates in Karachi South, Central and Malir reserved decisions on police requests for custody in 15 cases.

Police Expand Investigation

Before one of the court hearings, Special Investigation Officer Darakhshan Maqbool said police planned to present Anmol in 10 new cases along with four older cases.

He said investigators needed custody to arrest other suspects who remain absconders.

Earlier this week, Karachi Police launched what officials described as a broad-based investigation into the alleged narcotics network.

Investigators suspect foreign nationals may also have links to the operation.

Punjab Police Also Enter Investigation

Meanwhile, Punjab Police reopened three old cases registered against Anmol and her brothers in Lahore several years ago.

Reports suggest Punjab authorities may seek her custody from Sindh Police.

Police also intensified efforts to arrest alleged network member Tahir Saleem after investigators traced him to Hasilpur in Bahawalpur district.
