Speaking at the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi, the Iranian foreign minister said Iran would welcome any constructive role played by China to support diplomacy and reduce tensions.
Iran Seeks to Preserve Ceasefire
Araghchi said Tehran was trying to maintain the current ceasefire to give diplomacy a chance to move forward.
However, he added that Iran still had “no trust” in the United States and would only continue negotiations if Washington showed serious intent.
Furthermore, he said contradictory messages from the US had increased Iran’s doubts about ongoing diplomatic efforts.
At the same time, Araghchi acknowledged the impact of American sanctions on Iran’s economy.
Strait of Hormuz Situation Remains Tense
In comments carried by IRIB, Araghchi said Iran was not responsible for disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
He stated that Iran did not start the conflict and was acting in self-defense.
Moreover, he explained that the strategic waterway remained open to “friendly countries” that coordinated with Iranian authorities.
However, he warned that vessels linked to countries “at war with Iran” would not receive access.
Russia Offer Under Review
Araghchi also confirmed discussions with Russian officials regarding Moscow’s proposal to store Iran’s enriched uranium.
He appreciated Russia for offering support but said Tehran would address the issue during later stages of negotiations with the United States.
Therefore, Iran has not yet decided whether to accept the Russian proposal.
BRICS Talks Highlight Divisions
Meanwhile, foreign ministers from the BRICS group continued meetings in New Delhi amid growing Middle East tensions.
India issued a chair’s statement instead of a joint declaration due to differing views among member states on the regional conflict.
UAE Accelerates Oil Pipeline Project
Separately, the United Arab Emirates announced plans to speed up construction of a new oil pipeline designed to bypass the Strait of Hormuz.
According to officials, the project will double export capacity through Fujairah by 2027.
The pipeline expansion aims to reduce risks linked to regional instability and supply disruptions.
China Calls for End to Conflict
Meanwhile, China said there was “no point in continuing” the conflict and urged all sides to pursue dialogue.
A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson stressed the importance of restoring peace and reopening shipping routes as quickly as possible.
Furthermore, China called for a comprehensive ceasefire and renewed negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme.
US Offers Rewards Over IRGC Drone Network
At the same time, the US State Department announced rewards of up to $15 million for information related to individuals linked to an Iranian drone-production unit connected to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
According to US officials, the individuals allegedly helped develop and supply drones for Iran’s Quds Force operations.
