Iran has officially named its latest missile offensive against U.S. military installations “Annunciation of Victory,” according to a report from Iran’s Tasnim news agency. The missiles reportedly targeted American bases in both Qatar and Iraq, marking a serious escalation in the ongoing regional tensions.
Military sources confirmed to Reuters that air defence systems were activated at Iraq’s Ain al-Asad airbase, one of the primary targets of the Iranian strike. The attack comes in retaliation for recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, which Iran had vowed to respond to.
Qatar, meanwhile, has condemned the missile strike as a “violation of its sovereignty and international law.” In a strong statement, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari said the IRGC’s attack on the al-Udeid airbase was a clear breach of the UN Charter and Qatar’s airspace.
“We, in the State of Qatar, reserve the right to respond directly to this blatant aggression in accordance with international law,” said al-Ansari. He added that Qatari air defence systems had successfully intercepted and neutralized the incoming missiles, preventing major damage or casualties.
The situation remains tense, with observers warning of the potential for broader regional fallout if hostilities continue to escalate.
