KARACHI: A meeting held to honor the nursing profession has finalized plans to celebrate International Nursing Day with special ceremonies in Karachi on May 9, 2026, recognizing the vital contributions of nurses in healthcare and society.

The meeting was chaired by Atif Iqbal, CEO of High Q Pharma and Chairman of Pakistan Maymar Business Council under Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI), alongside Nadeem Sheikh, head of Justice International, and senior lawyer Saleem Michael Advocate. Representatives from the Pakistan Nurses Forum, including Sarfraz Asif and Madam Khair-un-Nisa, Principal of Dr. Ruth Pfau College of Nursing, also participated.
During the meeting, it was unanimously decided that International Nursing Day would be celebrated at the auditorium of Jinnah Hospital Karachi with dignity and grandeur. The event will include awards and recognition for nurses who have demonstrated outstanding performance and dedication in their professional duties.
Participants highlighted that nursing is a noble and essential profession that plays a critical role in safeguarding human lives and strengthening the overall healthcare system. They emphasized the need to further support the development, training, and international exposure of nursing professionals.
Detailed discussions were also held on improving the structure and effectiveness of the nursing sector, including initiatives for international educational development. High Q Pharma was specifically acknowledged for its efforts in supporting advanced training programs aimed at enhancing the skills and qualifications of nurses.
The meeting noted that such programs will help Pakistani nurses gain access to higher education opportunities and improve their professional standing at both national and international levels.
Representatives appreciated the cooperation of the Pakistan Nursing Council and the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council in supporting reforms and capacity-building initiatives in the sector.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a high-level committee was formed to oversee arrangements for the upcoming event, and senior lawyer Saleem Michael Advocate was also acknowledged for his contributions.
Organizers stated that the International Nursing Day celebration will not only serve as a tribute to the profession but also send a strong message of recognition for the invaluable services rendered by nurses to society.
