International medical journal The Lancet slams Modi Govt for mishandling pandemic

WEB DESK – An international medical journal ‘the Lancet’ has slammed the BJP led Indian government for its mishandling of Coronavirus pandemic terming it an inexcusable act.                                            

In an editorial, the journal wrote that despite warnings about the risks of super-spreader events, the Indian government allowed religious festivals, drawing millions of people from around the country, along with huge political rallies.                          

Holding Modi government responsible for self-inflicted national catastrophe, the journal also criticized the government to be more intent on removing criticism on social media than trying to control the pandemic.                                     

The journal quoted a report by Washington based Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation which said that India may see one million deaths from COVID-19 by August 1.
