Thatta/Sujawal: In response to the looming flood threat in the Indus River areas of Bello, Sued Mari, Soorjani Bund, and adjoining kacha regions, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has launched a large-scale evacuation and relief operation across several districts in Sindh.
Mobilizing its District Disaster Response Teams (DDRTs) and Community Disaster Response Teams (CDRTs), the PRCS has so far facilitated the safe evacuation of over 1,000 families from vulnerable riverbank areas. The ongoing operation spans multiple districts, including Dadu, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Sujawal, Thatta, Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, Shikarpur, and Badin. In addition to human lives, approximately 1,500 livestock have also been rescued.

According to PRCS Sindh Provincial Secretary Kanwar Waseem, the displaced families are being temporarily sheltered along the right and left embankments of the Indus River. He emphasized the urgent need for non-food items, tents, and safe drinking water, adding that relief efforts are actively underway to support the affected communities.
Waseem further stressed that the coordinated work between PRCS field teams and government departments will be critical in managing any escalation of the crisis.
In a related development, the Sindh government’s Rehabilitation Department has announced a change in the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Complaint Redressal Committee. Secretary PRSC has been appointed as the new independent member, replacing Mazhar Walji. The committee addresses complaints related to procurement during the fiscal year 2025–26.
With both humanitarian and institutional roles, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society continues to be at the forefront of disaster preparedness and response in the region
