Gujranwala, June 2025 : In alignment with the Ministry of Commerce strategic vision of enhancing export-led growth, the Engineering Division II of Regional Office of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), Sialkot, convened a strategic engagement session with the office bearers and executive committee members of the Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI) on 3rd June 2025 at the GCCI premises. The meeting aimed to assess the progress of earlier collaborative efforts and reinvigorate the momentum on planned initiatives under TDAP and EDF.
TDAP and GCCI had previously agreed to work jointly on business development projects to enhance the region’s export competitiveness through technical and marketing support.
The session was attended by TDAP Punjab-II team comprising senior officers including Ms. Ameera Pervaiz (Director, EDF), Ms. Nadia Farooqi (Director, Engineering-II), Mr. Ali Tamkin Butt (Director, Engineering & New Initiatives), Dr. Zain ul Abidin (Deputy Director, EDF), Mr. Faisal Zaman (Deputy Manager).
Furthermore, a Sectoral Development Plan was discussed to address structural challenges and unlock the export potential of Gujranwala’s key industries. Gujranwala based engineering industry was identified as having significant untapped potential, particularly for markets in the Africa,
Middle East and Central Asia. Multiple sectoral studies with industry specific research work were proposed to analyze existing constraints, with suggestions to incorporate innovative product designs. Similarly, the metal and plastic kitchenware sector, which operates mostly in the informal economy, was highlighted for a focused study to modernize supply chains and achieve international food-grade certifications. TDAP also proposed forming a tripartite committee comprising representatives from TDAP, GCCI, and the National Certification Council (NCC) to support industries in acquiring global certifications. GCCI was requested to submit a prioritized list of required certifications to guide this support.
The meeting concluded with a strong reaffirmation of TDAP’s commitment to supporting industry development through strategic partnerships and technical facilitation. It was agreed that continued coordination and proactive engagement between TDAP, GCCI, and relevant stakeholders would be essential for achieving tangible outcomes and strengthening the export base of Gujranwala’s engineering and manufacturing sectors.
