IHC Fixes November 5 Hearing on Petition Seeking Meeting with PTI Founder

PTI Founder: Islamabad High Court schedules hearing on petition seeking a meeting at Adiala Jail.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has scheduled November 5 to hear a petition filed by members of the National Dialogue Committee seeking permission to meet the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder in jail.
Justice Umair Majeed Malik will hear the petition on Thursday. The court has listed it alongside objections raised by the Registrar’s Office.
Senior lawyer Faisal Farid Chaudhry filed the petition on behalf of the National Dialogue Committee. The petitioners include former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry, former Sindh governor Imran Ismail, Mahmood Moulvi and Barrister Saif.
The petition names the Secretary Interior, Punjab Home Secretary and Superintendent of Adiala Jail as respondents.
Petition Raises Concerns Over Health and Jail Meetings
The petitioners describe themselves as friends of the PTI founder. They say they are deeply concerned about his health and well-being.
They also allege that jail authorities have subjected him to inappropriate behaviour and mistreatment. The petition further expresses concern about the reported deteriorating health of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi.

According to the petition, family members, friends and close relatives have been unable to meet the PTI founder for several months.
The petitioners argue that restrictions on meetings have fuelled rumours and speculation on social media. They say the lack of access has also increased public concern.
Petition Cites Constitutional Rights and Prison Rules
The petitioners say they approached the court to support political stability, constitutional supremacy and national reconciliation.
They argue that restrictions on meetings violate Articles 9 and 14 of the Constitution. They also maintain that the restrictions conflict with applicable prison rules and the United Nations’ Nelson Mandela Rules.
The petition asks the court to allow a meeting and interview with the PTI founder under the Pakistan Prison Rules 1978.
Court Asked to Arrange Meeting at Adiala Jail
The petition requests an order directing the Superintendent of Adiala Jail to arrange a meeting between the National Dialogue Committee delegation and the PTI founder.
It also seeks permission for the delegation to meet Bushra Bibi. The petitioners have asked the court to set a suitable time for the meetings.
They say the proposed meetings would allow them to assess the health, welfare and legal protection of the two individuals.
The IHC is scheduled to take up the petition on November 5, along with the Registrar’s Office objections.
