WASHINGTON/ISLAMABAD: Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani scientist jailed in the United States, has written a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan, seeking his assistance in ensuring her release from the US prison.

Pakistan’s consul general in Houston met Dr. Aafia at the prison where she handed him over the letter addressed to Mr. Khan.

‘I want to get out of the prison, as my imprisonment in the US jail is illegal,” she writes in the letter.

She said she always considered Imran Khan as one of her biggest heroes. ‘Mr. Khan had supported me in the past also,” she added.

Dr. Aafia also wrote that Imran Khan should be careful about ‘munafiq’ around him.

In June, Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr. Muhammad Faisal had said Pakistani consul general in the USA held a meeting with incarcerated Dr. Aafia Siddiqui where she complained of the mistreatment by US authorities.

“Pakistan has raised this issue with the concerned US quarters asking them to investigate the matter and address the complaints. Dr Aafia Siddiqui also handed over a letter to the Consul General to be delivered to her mother.”

The MIT-trained neuroscientist, Aafia Siddiqui, is serving the 86-year prison sentence after being convicted by the US court of seven counts of attempted murder and assault on US military personnel in Afghanistan.
