LAHORE: The Punjab government has introduced a free solar panel program for residents, particularly those consuming between 100 and 200 units of electricity per month.
Launched by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on December 6, 2024, this initiative aims to provide relief from rising electricity costs. The application deadline for the scheme was January 5, 2025. Those who applied can track their application status through various methods.
Steps to Check Your Application Status Online:
- Visit the official portal: https://cmsolarscheme.punjab.gov.pk/
- Log in using your registered email and password.
- Navigate to the ‘Application Status’ section on the dashboard.
- Your application will be marked as ‘Under Review,’ ‘Approved,’ or ‘Rejected.’
Alternative Methods to Check Status:
- Helpline Support: Call the helpline and provide your CNIC or reference number for assistance.
- SMS Updates: Applicants who registered via SMS will receive updates on their application status. Keep the confirmation message for reference.
Under this initiative, 100,000 solar systems will be distributed. Consumers using up to 100 units per month will receive a 550-watt solar system, while those consuming up to 200 units will be provided with an 1100-watt system.
The scheme is expected to significantly reduce electricity costs for eligible consumers and contribute to environmental sustainability by lowering carbon emissions by approximately 57,000 tons annually.
To ensure transparency, the selection process will be conducted through computerized balloting, with verification based on CNIC and reference numbers from electricity bills. A helpline will also assist consumers with registration and installation.
Authorities have emphasized security measures, ensuring that solar panels and inverters are linked to consumers’ CNICs to prevent theft. The initiative is also expected to help reduce the federal government’s subsidy burden while promoting renewable energy in Punjab.
