A new trend is currently gaining popularity on the internet, ‘egg coffee’, also known as ‘Vietnamese egg coffee’, a frothy and creamy drink made by mixing coffee with egg yolks and sweetened milk. Nutritionists who are familiar with this coffee say that the drink may seem delicious and tempting, but its regular consumption can pose several health risks. Raw or undercooked egg yolks can carry a bacteria called Salmonella, which can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. They are high in calories, which can lead to weight gain and, over time, increase the risk of metabolic diseases. People with heart disease, diabetes, and high cholesterol should be careful when consuming them.
