Popular Pakistani actor Hania Aamir has sparked a conversation on social media after speaking candidly about online bullying, self-doubt, and societal attitudes toward empowered women.

In a series of posts on her Instagram account, Aamir revealed that she had been struggling with self-doubt and recently took time off to reflect on her life and career. She said her introspection led her to a striking conclusion: “People just hate happy women.”

The actor criticized the culture of online trolling, stating that women who confidently live life on their own terms are often targeted and dragged down — not just by men, but by other women as well. She emphasized that such negativity creates a toxic environment and is “not good for women.”

Aamir highlighted how society continues to judge women based on appearance and behavior, arguing that while the platforms may have changed, the mindset remains the same. “We’re still pitting women against women… but now it’s on Instagram,” she said, referencing the persistent “log kya kahengay” mentality.

She also pointed out double standards in the entertainment industry, noting that female celebrities are often compared unfairly — even over trivial matters like wearing similar outfits — while male counterparts face little to no scrutiny.

Calling for introspection, Aamir urged people to question why they feel uncomfortable with women who are successful, visible, and unapologetically themselves. She stressed that women should not be forced to “water themselves down” to fit societal expectations.

Ending her message with a strong appeal, she said: “Stop gaslighting and bullying people… let them be whoever they are.”
