Karachi 26-05-2025 — A grand reception was organized by the International Lawyers Forum at Dar-ul-Sukun, Karachi, in honour of international boxer Aliya Soomro. The event was attended by prominent figures from the world of sports, members of civil society, and a large number of children.
Upon Aliya Soomro’s arrival at Dar-ul-Sukun, she received a warm welcome from the Sikh community, who showered her with flowers, and the premises echoed with chants of "Waheguru." Addressing the ceremony, Chairman of the International Lawyers Forum, Advocate Nasir Ahmed, said that Aliya Soomro is a source of pride for Pakistan. He appealed to the Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Hafiz Syed Asim Munir, to recruit Aliya Soomro into the Pakistan Army, stating that she has the potential to become an excellent commando.
He further referred to Pakistan’s past glories in cricket and hockey, emphasizing that national heroes emerged from grassroots and school-level platforms. He proposed that sports should be made compulsory in all schools and action should be taken against institutions that charge sports fees but fail to organize any events.
Sister Nargis Sadiq, head of Dar-ul-Sukun, described Aliya Soomro’s presence at the center as an honour. She expressed her prayers and hopes that Aliya continues to bring more accolades to the country and make Pakistan proud.
Aliya Soomro, in her address, expressed her desire to establish a women’s boxing academy in Karachi so that not just one, but thousands of Aliya Soomros can be nurtured. She also shed light on the challenges she faced throughout her career and announced her willingness to provide physical and boxing training to the girls of Dar-ul-Sukun.
She personally distributed sweets among the children during the event.
