Donald Trump weighs possible renewed Iran strikes after meeting his national security team.

US President Donald Trump has met with his national security team to discuss the possibility of resuming military operations against Iran, according to senior officials cited by Fox News.

The officials confirmed that meetings took place at the White House on Wednesday and Thursday. However, Washington has not announced a final decision on renewed military action.

The discussions come as the Trump administration weighs its next steps in the conflict with Iran.

Trump Says Decision on Iran Strikes Is Near

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump said Washington would soon decide whether to resume military operations.

He questioned whether the United States should launch further strikes to ensure Iran’s nuclear programme could not be revived.

“Do we want to go further” with strikes to ensure Iran’s nuclear programme is dead and that “it will never happen again?” Trump asked.

He also expressed reluctance to cause further destruction in Iran.

“I would rather not destroy the rest of the country if possible, but maybe I will have to. You’ll know soon enough,” he said.

US Military Prepares for Possible Operations

US Central Command is reportedly finalising preparations for a possible resumption of major military operations in Iran.

However, reports citing a US official said the command had not received a fresh directive from Washington.

Fox News also reported that November 9 would bring a new moon over the Middle East. The resulting lack of moonlight could provide favourable conditions for military operations conducted under darkness.

The report did not indicate that a decision to launch strikes had been made.

Iraq Urges Trump to Respect Regional Sovereignty

Meanwhile, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi spoke with Trump by telephone on Thursday.

During the conversation, Al-Zaidi stressed that Iraqi territory must not serve as a launching point for attacks against neighbouring countries.

A statement from the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office said he reaffirmed Baghdad’s position on respecting the sovereignty of states.

The statement also called for preventing the use of Iraqi territory to launch aggression against neighbouring countries.

The call came amid growing diplomatic efforts to contain regional tensions and prevent the conflict from spreading.

Iraq has repeatedly emphasised the importance of dialogue, diplomacy and regional stability as tensions continue over the possibility of renewed US military action against Iran.
