Islamabad — The federal government has announced a significant increase in petroleum prices for the coming week, raising petrol by Rs6.51 per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs19.39 per litre, amid ongoing regional tensions and concerns over fuel supply disruptions linked to the Strait of Hormuz situation.

According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the new prices have been set at Rs399.86 per litre for petrol and Rs399.58 per litre for HSD.

The price revision comes at a time of heightened public concern over possible fuel shortages. However, the Petroleum Division has categorically rejected reports suggesting the closure of petrol pumps from May 1, terming such claims as baseless and misleading.

In an official statement, the division assured that there is no disruption in the supply of petroleum products and that distribution across the country will continue without interruption. It also urged citizens to avoid panic driven by what it described as negative propaganda.

Despite official assurances, reports of a potential price hike led to a rush at fuel stations in several cities, including Islamabad and Lahore. Long queues of vehicles were witnessed outside petrol pumps, causing traffic congestion and delays in multiple areas. In some locations, fuel stations reportedly experienced temporary operational strain due to the sudden increase in demand.

The district administration in Islamabad issued a public advisory, stating that sufficient fuel stocks were available at all petrol stations in the capital. Citizens were encouraged to report any fuel station found rationing supply below demand levels.

Officials provided a control room contact number (051-9108084), urging the public to rely on verified information and avoid spreading or acting on rumours regarding fuel shortages.

Authorities reiterated that petroleum supply chains remain stable despite broader regional developments and that all necessary measures are in place to ensure uninterrupted availability of fuel across Pakistan.
