Karachi on 31 August 2023. Members of the HEC presented their views on agenda items in front of chairman HEC and Federal Minister. The agenda items included the following :
1. Brainstorming Session on Improvement of Quality in Higher Education
2. Detail of Funding Allocated to Sindh Universities
3. Achievements of HEC Targets by Sindh Public Sector Universities
4. Addressing Issues of Sindh Public Sector Universities
The federal minister Mr Madad Ali Sindhi asked the participants that when private sector universities can compete with public sector universities without any funding from government so public sector universities should also focus on producing quality research papers.
Further, he said the formation of ORICs (Offices of Research Innovation and Commercialization) and QAA ( Quality Assurance Agency) are good initiatives by HEC and should be given more space to develop in order to increase its effectiveness and efficiency. He added that focus should be on quality rather than quantity of papers which is why these frameworks were launched.
Afterwards the Federal Minister addressed the media persons.
The Federal Minister Mr. Madad Ali Sindhi said that meeting with board members with Sindh HEC was productive and key issues were addressed. Moreover, he said that he will work on different areas where HEC lacks behind in order to increase the credibility of the board internationally and will schedule regular meetings in order to address various issues of different stakeholders.
