Faran Tahir Returns to Marvel as Raza in VisionQuest After 18 Years
Faran Tahir returns as Raza in Marvel’s VisionQuest, 18 years after his debut in Iron Man.
Pakistani-American actor Faran Tahir has returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after 18 years, reprising his role as Raza in the sixth episode of Marvel Studios’ series VisionQuest.
Tahir first appeared as Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar in Iron Man (2008). He played the militant leader who kidnapped Tony Stark, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. The character was later presumed dead after Obadiah Stane, played by Jeff Bridges, turned against him.
Marvel announced Raza’s return in January 2025, surprising fans who had not seen the character since the franchise’s first film. His appearance in VisionQuest brings the former antagonist back with a different look and an apparent change in profession.
Raza Returns in VisionQuest Episode Six
In the sixth episode, Vision, played by Paul Bettany, travels to Madripoor to rescue Thomas Shepherd, also known as Tommy Maximoff. Tommy, who is connected to Vision and Wanda Maximoff’s family, has been taken hostage by bounty hunter Paladin.

Paladin plans to use Tommy to lure Vision into his grasp. However, the confrontation takes an unexpected turn when Raza arrives with a heavily armed group, intending to capture Vision.
His involvement proves brief. Paladin knocks Raza unconscious during the encounter, although the character’s return leaves room for further developments in the Marvel universe.
From Ten Rings Leader to Bounty Hunter
Raza has undergone a noticeable transformation since his appearance in Iron Man. He was previously associated with the Ten Rings organisation and operated in Afghanistan.
In VisionQuest, he appears to work as a bounty hunter in Madripoor. He serves a mysterious client who wants to capture Vision.
His appearance has also changed. Instead of military fatigues, Raza now wears a sharp suit. An earpiece appears designed to protect him from high-frequency attacks, recalling the device Stane used against him in the original film.
What Is VisionQuest About?
Created by Terry Matalas, VisionQuest follows the resurrected android Vision as he embarks on a journey of self-discovery after the events of WandaVision.
The series also explores artificial intelligence through the different personas embedded in Vision’s programming. Its story expands the character’s journey while reconnecting elements of the wider Marvel universe.
Tahir’s return brings a character from the MCU’s earliest chapter into its latest television storyline, nearly two decades after his debut.
