INDI : A father in Badhanu area of Kanpur city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh tried to sacrifice his 8-year-old daughter, but the girl’s life was saved due to the timely intervention of locals. According to the police, the accused on Saturday took his daughter to the bank of a canal wearing a sari, where he allegedly started performing rituals. Meanwhile, hearing the girl’s screams, people from a nearby village reached the spot and immediately freed her from her father’s possession, after which the police were informed. According to Tej Bahadur Singh, in-charge of Badhanu police station, initial investigation revealed that the accused performed various rituals at the scene and at the same time the girl started crying loudly in fear, upon which passers-by intervened and saved her. The accused’s family says that his mental condition had been bad for the past several months. According to his brother, about Rs 75,000 was also recovered from the house, with which he had bought clothes and other items for himself and his daughter. The family further said that the accused often dressed like women and was allegedly interested in superstitions and rituals, due to which his married life was also affected and his wife left him about 7 years ago. According to police, during interrogation, the accused denied the allegation of harming his daughter and made various claims. Authorities say the girl has been safely handed over to her aunt, while the family has been directed to provide the accused with proper treatment.
