JAMAICA : A routine flight from the Caribbean country of Jamaica landed at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, USA, with another passenger on board. The flight departed from Kingston, Jamaica, on April 4, and a woman gave birth during the flight, but a debate arose over which country’s citizenship the newborn would receive. This is because there are no details about the child’s parents and it is also not known where the plane was actually flying when the child was born. If one of the child’s parents is a US citizen, the child will acquire US citizenship. Even if the parents are not American, according to US law, if a child is born on a plane flying in US airspace, he or she will acquire US citizenship.
