Karachi — Aurat March Karachi has sparked widespread attention online after announcing a satirical “Misogynist of the Year” award ahead of its 2026 march scheduled to take place on May 10 at Sea View, coinciding with Mother’s Day.
The feminist advocacy group shared the announcement through its official Instagram account, introducing what it described as the “Pakistan edition” of the awards. The initiative aims to highlight and critique misogynistic remarks made publicly during the past year.
In the social media post, organizers said the campaign was intended to remind people of comments and statements that contribute to a culture of gender discrimination and hostility toward women.
The group invited the public to participate by submitting examples of what they considered the most misogynistic public remarks made by cisgender men during 2025. According to the organizers, selected entries could potentially lead to one individual being symbolically “crowned” the year’s biggest offender.
Adding a satirical element to the campaign, the promotional artwork featured a golden “chapal” as the mock trophy, reflecting the movement’s use of humour and symbolism to address serious social issues.
The announcement quickly generated reactions across social media, with supporters praising the initiative as a creative form of accountability and critics questioning its tone and approach. The campaign is expected to remain a talking point in the lead-up to the annual Aurat March demonstration in Karachi.
Aurat March has become one of Pakistan’s most prominent rights-based movements, focusing on issues including gender equality, workplace rights, violence against women, bodily autonomy, and social justice.
