Karachi: Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi’s Fine Art Committee organized an evening featuring acclaimed painter Masood A. Khan at the Ahmed Parvez Art Gallery in the Ahmed Shah Building. Titled “Brush Hour,” the event featured a captivating live painting session by the artist, mesmerizing the audience with his creative brilliance.
Prominent personalities from the art world were in attendance, including President Arts Council Mohammad Ahmed Shah, TV director Sohail Hashmi, Academy Director Arman Raheem, Head of International Collaboration Jahanzeb Ali Shah, and celebrated artist Shahid Rassam, along with other noted figures from the fine arts community. The session was creatively hosted by Farrukh Tanveer Shahab, Chairman of the Fine Art Committee, and Umaimah Khan.
In his address, President Mohammad Ahmed Shah stated, “We aim to unite artists from around the globe. So far, artists from 102 countries have confirmed their participation in the upcoming World Culture Festival, with painters from 30 countries also expected to join. At this festival, we will present a one-of-a-kind fine art showcase — the first of its kind in our country’s history — featuring music, dance, theatre, and visual art. We’re also paying tribute to senior artists through our Fine Art Committee initiatives.”
Speaking about Masood A. Khan, Shah praised his contribution to the field and emphasized the Council’s commitment to supporting artists. “We don’t love money — we love art. Exhibitions boost artists’ morale. I encourage artists to bring their collectors and make this space a true hub for creativity.”
Shah also revealed that the Council is developing a website to feature artist alumni and their works, stating, “Our doors are always open for quality work and passionate artists.”
Chairman Farrukh Tanveer Shahab remarked, “Masood A. Khan’s work is admired globally. He possesses the rare ability to see what lies beyond the wall.”
Speaking at the event, Masood A. Khan expressed gratitude for the tribute, saying, “The Arts Council has initiated a meaningful practice of honoring artists. President Ahmed Shah genuinely supports creative individuals. While we learn from books, the wonders of nature teach us things no school ever could.”
He added, “Every artist has an inherent sense of beauty and mastery — recognizing it helps transform emotion into artwork. Artists guide society toward beauty and peace. Even in times of war, poets, painters, and musicians emerge to inspire hope. As an artist, I’ve shaped myself through this journey, and sincerity toward one’s craft is essential.”
