NEW YORK : A woman in the US has been sentenced to six months in prison for bank fraud after a flaw in facial recognition AI software. Angela Lips, 50, was arrested after police in North Dakota used an artificial intelligence tool to identify her in bank surveillance video as the woman who had withdrawn thousands of dollars using a fake military ID. A police detective verified the AI-generated image with Angela Lipps’ social media accounts and driver’s license photo. However, she could not be personally identified. Officers met with the woman after she had spent 108 days in a county jail in Tennessee. It was later discovered that she was 1,900 kilometers away at the time of the bank fraud, after which her case was dismissed.
