Anchor Amna Fatima questions Korangi police investigation after theft case delays

Amna Fatima, a Karachi-based anchor, has raised concerns over the handling of a theft case registered at the Korangi Industrial Area Police Station, alleging shortcomings in the investigation and calling for the appointment of a new investigating officer.

According to a press release, the case relates to a theft at her residence in Allahwala Town. An FIR (No. 206/26) names several suspects, including Kashif Ali, Ejaz alias Joji, Anas Ahmed alias Ali, Afshan, and Huma. The statement claims that the suspects have been nominated in multiple cases and alleges that they remain at large, prompting questions about the pace and effectiveness of the investigation.
Allegations against investigating officer
Speaking to the media, Amna Fatima claimed she used her professional skills to gather evidence that helped identify the suspects, which she says contributed to their arrest. However, she alleged that the investigating officer, Hidayat Ali, did not effectively pursue the case during court proceedings and remained absent on key hearing dates.
She appealed to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Korangi to assign the investigation to another officer and to examine the allegations regarding the conduct of the current investigating officer.
Civil society calls for accountability
Social activist Farzana Barni said she had previously urged the Inspector General of Police Sindh to take action against officials allegedly involved in misconduct. She expressed concern over the financial loss suffered by the victim, stating that valuables collected over several years were allegedly stolen in a single incident.
Barni also announced that members of civil society plan to organise a peaceful protest in Allahwala Town to highlight concerns about alleged land mafia activities and demand stronger law enforcement action.
Demand for transparent investigation
Another social activist, Naeem Istafa Namakwala, said citizens would continue to raise their concerns through peaceful and lawful means. He argued that the case reflects broader public concerns about unresolved criminal incidents in Korangi and called for greater accountability and timely investigations.
Police officials had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of the press release. The claims made by the complainant and activists have not been independently verified, and the investigation remains ongoing.
