Karachi: Muhammad Kamran Khan Tessori, the current Governor of Sindh, has indeed garnered significant popularity due to his various public-friendly initiatives. His tenure is marked by transforming the Governor’s House into a hub of knowledge and culture, making it a welcoming place for the general public. This shift from an exclusive “Dar-ul-Khwas” (House of the Elite) to an inclusive “Dar-ul-Awam” (House of the People) reflects his commitment to accessibility and community engagement.

Governor Muhammad Kamran Khan Tessori of Sindh recently organized a distinguished Mushaira in honor of Dr. Nikhat Iftikhar, a renowned Pakistani poet residing in the UK, at the Governor’s House. The event was coordinated by Mahmood Ahmad Khan, the Chief Organizer of the Sakinan-e-Shahar-e-Quaid, whose meticulous planning ensured its success. Mahmood Ahmad Khan, with his extensive experience in cultural events, adeptly selected both poets and audience members, creating an enriching literary experience.

The Governor’s House, adorned with vibrant greenery and sparkling lights, provided a picturesque setting for the event. The chilly winds added a refreshing touch to the atmosphere, enhancing the overall ambiance. Attendees enjoyed the Mushaira from a mix of elegant sofas, comfortable chairs, and traditional floor seating, all contributing to a memorable and dignified event.

The event also saw the presence of Dr. Khalid Maqbool Ahmed Siddiqui, the Federal Minister of Education, as the special guest. Dr. Nikhat Iftikhar was the guest of honor, receiving well-deserved recognition for her contributions to Urdu poetry. Dr. Iqbal Pirzada managed the administrative responsibilities with remarkable grace, ensuring the smooth flow of the evening’s proceedings. The event commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran and Naat-e-Rasul Maqbool, followed by the national anthem of Pakistan, setting a respectful and patriotic tone for the Mushaira.

This memorable Mushaira not only celebrated the literary achievements of Dr. Nikhat Iftikhar but also highlighted the Governor’s commitment to promoting culture and arts. The successful organization and the dignified conduct of the event will be remembered for years, setting a high standard for future literary gatherings at the Governor’s House.

Muhammad Kamran Khan Tessori has earned the title of “People’s Governor” from the people of Karachi, owing to his deep attachment to the Urdu language and literature. He is possibly the first governor of Sindh to demonstrate such a strong commitment to these cultural elements, ensuring their promotion and continuity. As the host of the recent Mushaira, Governor Tessori emphasized the importance of these poetry gatherings in his welcome speech. He extended his gratitude to Prof. Sahar Ansari, who presided over the gathering, and to Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, the Federal Minister of Education, for attending despite his busy schedule. In a gesture of appreciation, Governor Tessori presented a token of recognition to Dr. Nikhat Iftikhar, acknowledging her significant contributions to Urdu poetry. He commended the Governor for reinvigorating traditions that had been waning and for starting a commendable practice of organizing literary programs. Dr. Siddiqui expressed his admiration for Dr. Nikhat Iftikhar, noting her impactful contributions both before and after her move to Britain. He recalled her dynamic speaking style and was particularly impressed by her poetry at the event, further cementing his admiration for her talents. Khawaja Razi Haider, Sadia Hareem, Rauf Siddiqui, Dr. Iqbal Pirzada, Khalid Moin, Ajmal Siraj, Iqbal Khawar, Kashif Hussain Ghair, Farrukh Izhar Siddiqui, Safdar Ali Khan Insha, Seeman Nazir, Imran Shamshad Narmi, Umair Anjum, Saleem Akasi, Haider Rizvi, Fahad Wali, Minhal Rizvi, Arsalan Azmi

The evening concluded with a sumptuous dinner for all the poets and attendees, providing an opportunity for further interaction and celebration of Urdu literature. This Mushaira not only honored Dr. Nikhat Iftikhar but also showcased the vibrant literary talent of the region, reinforcing the Governor’s commitment to cultural and literary promotion.
