Khairpur ; A One-Day Training Workshop on the topic “The Role of Social Media for Social Change” was held at Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur jointly organized by the Bhittai Social Watch & Advocacy (BSWA), Khairpur, Department of Media & Communication Studies, Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), Sukkur and Young Peace Development Corp. (YPDC). Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto, Vice Chancellor Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur presided over the workshop.
Talking to the participants, Prof. Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ibupoto said Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur is providing ample opportunities of learning and capacity building for students. He said youth may use the social media for positive change in the society. He said the use of social media is imperative for the socio-economic change of the society. Dr. Ibupoto appreciated the efforts of the organizers of this workshop.
Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences remarked that there are aspects of the social media, positive and negative; it is the need of the time to utilize the all gadgets for positive change for development of the state, progress and for peace narrative.
Master Trainer Mr. Sajjad Hussain Bhatti, Executive Producer 92 News shed light on the theme of the workshop. He said believe yourself regarding the facts and authenticity of the social media. He said that the social media contributes as an effective catalyst for social change. The social media boast the society and social elements are the most significant tools for motivating and discouraging people. Mr. Bhatti said social media could play its role for civic education, women empowerment, diversity and entrepreneurship. He said that students of this University possess the potential of learning and acquiring knowledge. He appreciated the efforts of the Vice Chancellor and his team for organizing such types of workshop for knowledge sharing and transforming.
Mr. Khadim Hussain Mirani, Executive Director BSWA said we are the close partner of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur and working for the capacity building of students because they are the future of the nation. He briefed the activities of BSWA of different projects.
Mr. Jameel Ahmed Soomro, Station Director, APP, Sukkur said that APP is serving the nation since 1947 by providing an accurate, objective, uninterrupted flow of the news. He said APP is providing authentic news content through its multiple platforms. He appreciated the efforts of the incumbent Vice Chancellor in the patronage of the area for their positive mindset.
Dr. Ali Raza Lashari, Incharge Students Societies Centre conducted the proceedings of the workshop. The certificates were distributed among the participants.
Mr. Zohaib Shafqat Memon, Secretary to Vice Chancellor, Ms. Fozia Hanif, Project Manager BSWA and large number of students attended the workshop.
