KARACHI: The National Foundation Day of Korea was celebrated in a mesmeric gathering of the city’s elite yesterday at a local hotel in Karachi.
Consul General Republic of Korea Kim Haksung while addressing the event said: “Pakistan and Korea enjoys a very cordial relationship for decades and our relationship will reach a new turning point next year as we will go to celebrate the 40th anniversary of our diplomatic bond.”
Senior Minister of Sindh Mr. Saeed Ghani, Commissioner Karachi Mr. Iqbal Memon, and Dean of the diplomatic Corp. and Consul General of Qatar Mr. Mishal M. Al Ansari, cutting the cake at the reception hosted on the Occasion of the National Foundation Day of the Republic of Korea hosted by the Mr. Kim Haksung, Consul General and Mrs. Kim Jiyoung, at a local hotel.
Korean CG also said that close coordination in different fields of interest and the mutual visits of the top brass of government officials from both sides will play a vital role in further strengthening our friendly relationship.
Kim Haksung also said that it is the need of the hour to increase the volume of trade between Korea and Pakistan as at present it is unsatisfactory and ease of doing business, innovative business ideas, and close interaction of the members of the business community will revitalize and enhance trade by taking businesses to new heights of success in future.
Sindh Minister for Labour and Human Resources Saeed Ghani who was the chief guest on the occasion congratulated the Korean people on National Foundation Day and expressed all good wishes for strengthening the ties and long-term bond between both countries.
It is pertinent to mention here that at present around 10,000 Pakistanis are working in Korea, 1500 students are getting an education whereas 800 Koreans are residing in Pakistan along with 20 companies engaged in different businesses.
Considering the devastating floods in Pakistan, Korean Consul General also informed the audience that initially Korean government provided $300,000 in the shape of first aid emergency aid while five Korean companies donated around $500,000 to help out the flood-affected people.
The Korean National Day gathering was attended by Commissioner Karachi Mohammed Iqbal Memon, Dr Afsha Administrator DMC (South) Karachi, diplomats from various countries including China, Japan, Qatar, UAE, Indonesia, Bangladesh, etc along with members of the business community, politicians, government officials, and journalists.
