LAHORE – Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was awarded seven-year imprisonment and a fine of 2.5 million dollars in Al-Azizia Steel Mills reference case by Accountability Court in Islamabad today. Judge Arshad Malik of Accountability Court, who announced the verdict, acquitted Nawaz Sharif in Flagship Investments reference case.
Nawaz Sharif was arrested from the premises of accountability court.
The Accountability Court Judge accepted Nawaz Sharif’s request to shift him to Kot Lakhpat Jail Lahore instead of Adiyala Jail Rawalpindi.
The verdict was reserved by Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Arshad Malik on Wednesday last.
Nawaz Sharif was later shifted to Adiyala Jail Rawalpindi from where he will be shifted to Kot Lakhpat Jail Lahore tomorrow. The National Accountability Bureau has decided to file an appeal against the Accountability Court judgment in Flagship reference case against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting of the bureau at its headquarters in Islamabad this evening, with Chairman NAB Justice retired Javed Iqbal in the chair.
The meeting was attended by senior law experts, concerned NAB directors general, and other top officers.
The chairman directed NAB’s legal team to timely file an appeal against the verdict about Nawaz Sharif’s acquittal in the Flagship reference with solid evidences and full preparation.
