150 Million Muslims are diabetic patients, 50 Million Fasting in the month of Ramadan, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Nusrat Shah

Professor Nusrat Shah, Pro Vice Chancellor DUHS has said that in the whole world, 150 Million Muslims are diabetic patients, And at least 50 Million of them do fasting in the month of Ramadan. Diabetes needs to be controlled before and during Ramadan, so diabetics and their loved ones need to be aware before Ramadan so that they can be prepared before the fasting month, She told this while addressing to the participants of awareness walk and seminar organized by the National Institute of Diabetes and endocrinology (NIDE), an institute running under the Dow University of Health Sciences. Earlier, the walk started from the main block of Dow University Hospital OPD under the leadership of Prof. Nusrat Shah. Participants held banners and placards, the walk ended on the main gate of NIDE. Prof. Fauzia Parveen, Principal, Down International Medical College, Director NIDE Prof. Akhtar Ali Baloch, Brgd. (r) Shoaib, Director Dr. A.Q. Khan Institute of Behavioral Sciences, Dr. Umar Farooq Deputy Director NIDE, Dr. Fareed Uddin, Prof. Zareen Kiran, Dr. Syed Muhammad Hassan and others also addressed the seminar.

Professor Fauzia Perveen said that Dow University will continue to play its role in community service along with excellent medical education. NIDE offers physical therapy as well as spiritual therapy. The institute aims to provide free medicines and other facilities to diabetics as well as to strengthen them spiritually. One and a half months before the arrival of Ramadan, it tell the ways to perform this basic pillar of Islam without any difficulty. Professor Akhtar Baloch said that In the Muslim population of the world, programs are set up to guide those who are suffering from diabetes and want to fast. He said that since its inception, NIDE has been caring for his patients. Annually 50000 patients are being benefitted from this institute. Deserving patients are provided with two weeks of medicines, insulin, foot wear and other necessary items. Students from other universities of the city also come here as research fellow. At the end, shields were given to Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Nusrat Shah, Professor Fauzia Perveen, Brgd. (r) Shoaib and Professor Akhtar Ali baloch.
