Petrol Price Rises by Rs4.10, Diesel by Rs6.41 in Pakistan

Petrol and diesel prices rise in Pakistan from September 16.
The government has increased the petrol price by Rs4.10 per litre and raised the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs6.41. The new rates took effect on Wednesday.
Petrol now costs Rs384.34 per litre. Meanwhile, HSD is priced at Rs415.83 per litre.
The government continues to charge Rs114 per litre in taxes and duties on petrol. The levy on diesel stands at Rs100 per litre.
Fuel Prices Rise Amid Global Market Pressure
The latest increase follows several fuel price adjustments in September.
HSD had reached Rs520.35 per litre on April 3. Petrol also hit a record Rs458.41 per litre on the same date.
Both prices later declined from those peaks. However, renewed pressure in international energy markets has pushed domestic rates higher again.
Government Announces Fuel Relief
The price increase comes as the government prepares to roll out a fuel relief scheme for smaller vehicle owners.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the scheme on September 13. It targets motorcycles, three-wheelers and vehicles with engines up to 800cc.
Under the plan, motorcycle and three-wheeler owners will receive Rs100 per litre in relief on a monthly quota of 20 litres. Owners of vehicles up to 800cc will receive the same relief on a quota of 30 litres.
The government says the scheme aims to reduce the impact of rising international oil prices on lower- and middle-income households.
Daily Fuel Price Reviews Continue
Pakistan shifted to more frequent fuel price revisions amid sharp movements in international oil markets.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik had announced in July that fuel prices would be reviewed daily because of fluctuations linked to renewed regional tensions.

The government subsequently began adjusting rates over shorter periods. The latest revision reflects the continuing volatility in global energy markets.
Petrol and Diesel Affect Consumers
Petrol remains widely used by private vehicles, motorcycles and rickshaws. Therefore, changes in its price can quickly affect household transport costs.
Diesel has a broader impact on the economy. It powers heavy transport, industrial equipment, power plants and large generators.
As a result, higher diesel prices can also raise transportation and production costs.
Fuel Sales Generate Major Revenue
Petrol and HSD remain Pakistan’s main petroleum products by sales volume.
Monthly demand for petrol and diesel runs into hundreds of thousands of tonnes. By comparison, kerosene demand remains much smaller.
Consequently, changes in petrol and diesel prices have a direct effect on both consumers and government revenue.
The latest increase adds further pressure on fuel users as authorities balance international oil costs, domestic prices and targeted relief measures.
