Saeed Mehdi: Former Bureaucrat Shares Historic Political Experiences at Quaid-e-Azam House

Saeed Mehdi shared firsthand accounts of Pakistan’s political history during a special talk at the Quaid-e-Azam House Museum on Thursday. The Institute of Nation Building organised the event at Flagstaff House, drawing a large audience of diplomats, academics, civil servants and public figures.
Mehdi, author of The Eyewitness and former Principal Secretary to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, spoke about his decades of service in Pakistan’s bureaucracy. Lightstone Publishers published the book.

Liaquat Merchant, Senior Vice Chairman of Quaid-e-Azam House Museum, welcomed the guests. Ameena Saiyid, a member of the museum’s Board of Governors, introduced the speaker. Raheela Baqai of Lightstone Publishers delivered the vote of thanks.
During his address, Mehdi recalled several defining moments from Pakistan’s political history. He described receiving former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto inside the aircraft upon her return to Lahore in 1986. He also reflected on his tenure as Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi during the final years of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, including events surrounding Bhutto’s execution.
The audience listened attentively as Mehdi recounted his experiences and offered insights into the country’s political and administrative history.
Among those attending the event were Syed Khadim Ali Shah, Aftab Nabi, Salman Faruqui, Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Mahtab Rashdi, Sirajuddin Aziz, and Khurshid Hyder, along with many other distinguished guests.
