Xiaomi begins public Android 17 Beta testing for the Xiaomi 17 series in China.

Android 17 Beta registration has officially opened for Xiaomi users as the company begins public testing of HyperOS 3 based on Google’s latest Android operating system.

The beta programme is currently available only in China and supports the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra, including the Leica Edition. Xiaomi has allocated 1,000 testing slots for each device, giving selected users early access to the new software before its wider release.

Registration opened on July 2 and will remain available until July 8, or until all available positions are filled. Applicants must register through the Xiaomi Community platform and ensure their devices are running the required firmware versions before applying.

Eligible devices include the Xiaomi 17 Ultra with firmware version OS3.0.308.0.WPACNXM and the Xiaomi 17 with OS3.0.315.0.WPCCNXM.

Xiaomi said it will review applications throughout July and plans to begin distributing the Android 17 Beta update to selected participants before the end of the month.

The company described the programme as an Early Bird Beta intended primarily for developers and experienced users who can help identify bugs and improve software stability before the public rollout.

Xiaomi warned that the beta version may contain software bugs, performance issues and app compatibility problems. The company recommends installing the update only on a secondary device rather than a primary smartphone.

Participants should also note that they cannot downgrade to Android 16 after installing the beta. Users will remain on the beta channel until testing ends and cannot switch directly to the stable version during the programme.

Those already enrolled in Xiaomi’s MiCLAW closed beta programme must leave that testing programme before applying for the Android 17 Beta. Users who later decide to leave the beta can request removal through Xiaomi’s designated support channel while continuing to receive future Android 17-based updates.

The public beta follows months of internal testing as Xiaomi prepares the wider release of HyperOS 3. By opening early testing shortly after Google’s latest Android release, Xiaomi aims to accelerate software optimisation, improve system stability and gather user feedback before expanding availability to more devices.
