European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas arrived in Islamabad on Monday for high-level talks with Pakistan’s leadership.

State broadcaster Radio Pakistan reported her arrival. In addition, the European Union confirmed the visit in a statement issued on May 30.
Kallas is also the Vice President of the European Commission. She is visiting Pakistan for discussions on bilateral relations and cooperation.
Strategic Dialogue to Focus on Cooperation
During the visit, Kallas will take part in the 8th EU-Pakistan Strategic Dialogue.
She will meet Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar during the session. Furthermore, both sides are expected to review key areas of cooperation.
According to officials, the talks will focus on strengthening diplomatic, economic and development ties.
Meetings With Top Pakistani Leadership
In addition to formal dialogue sessions, Kallas will meet Pakistan’s top leadership.
She is scheduled to meet President Asif Ali Zardari. She will also hold talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Moreover, she will meet Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir.
These meetings are expected to cover regional security and broader geopolitical issues.
EU Remains Pakistan’s Key Trading Partner
The European Union is Pakistan’s second-largest trading partner.
Under the GSP+ scheme, Pakistan benefits from preferential access to European markets.
As a result, many exports enter the EU with reduced or zero tariffs.
The arrangement has significantly boosted Pakistan’s textile exports.
According to official data, textile exports to the EU rose by 108 percent after GSP+ status was granted in 2014.
Trade and Cooperation in Focus
Both sides are expected to discuss the future of trade relations.
In addition, Pakistan is likely to highlight the importance of retaining preferential trade access.
Meanwhile, the EU is expected to review progress on governance, human rights and regulatory commitments linked to GSP+.
Strengthening Long-Term Partnership
Officials say the visit reflects growing engagement between Pakistan and the European Union.
Therefore, the Strategic Dialogue is seen as an important platform for long-term cooperation.
