A seminar titled “Central Asia Market Access: Opportunities in Balochistan Export Sector” was held at the Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry, bringing together traders, exporters, entrepreneurs, and government officials to explore emerging trade prospects in regional markets.
The event was organized by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan in Quetta, aiming to enhance awareness about export potential and facilitate business linkages with Central Asia.
The session began with a welcome address by Mola Dad, followed by a detailed presentation from Asif Abro, who outlined key sectors with strong export potential in Balochistan. These included fisheries, livestock, halal meat, fruits, minerals, and pharmaceuticals. He emphasized the strategic importance of Gwadar Port as a gateway connecting Pakistan to Central Asian markets.
Participants were briefed on trade corridors through Afghanistan, Iran, and China, as well as relevant trade agreements that can facilitate regional connectivity. TDAP highlighted its role in supporting exporters through market intelligence, logistics assistance, promotional activities, and certification facilitation.
During an interactive question-and-answer session led by Noor Ali Achakzai, participants raised key challenges including visa delays, shortage of slaughterhouses, licensing hurdles, transport constraints, and customs-related issues. These concerns were addressed, and recommendations were documented for submission to relevant authorities.
The seminar witnessed strong participation from young entrepreneurs, while representatives of the Balochistan government reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the business community. Vice President of the Chamber, Mir Wais, appreciated TDAP’s efforts and stressed the importance of public-private collaboration to boost exports.
The session concluded with a consensus that Balochistan has the potential to emerge as a regional export hub, linking Pakistan with Central Asian markets through improved connectivity, policy reforms, and a more business-friendly environment.
