Islamabad — The federal government has exempted K-Electric and the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) from its newly announced daily load management plan, according to a statement issued by the Power Division spokesperson on Tuesday.
Sindh Government Raises Alarm Over Worsening Gas Crisis, Seeks Federal Intervention
Earlier, the Power Division had announced that electricity would be suspended for approximately 2.25 hours daily between 5pm and 1am across the country under its “peak relief strategy,” aimed at managing rising electricity demand during peak hours.
However, the spokesperson later clarified that the load management plan would not be applied to K-Electric and HESCO.
The statement said the exemption was granted due to the lower dependence of both utilities on furnace oil and the availability of relatively cheaper electricity from southern generation sources.
It added that consumers in the service areas of both companies would not face additional load shedding, as sufficient low-cost electricity is already being supplied to the system in those regions.
The Power Division further stated that the benefit of cheaper electricity generation in the south would be passed on to consumers, helping reduce unnecessary disruption in those areas.
Earlier this month, the federal government had also introduced energy conservation measures requiring early closure of markets and shopping centres nationwide, with certain exemptions in Sindh.
Subsequently, the Sindh government extended operating hours for shops and commercial centres in Karachi and other divisional headquarters, aligning its own schedule with provincial requirements.
