Karachi — The Government of Sindh has expressed serious concern over the worsening gas crisis across the province, particularly in Karachi, where unannounced outages during designated meal times are severely disrupting daily life.

In a statement, Sindh Government spokesperson Sukhdev Hemnani said gas supply is being interrupted without prior notice even during officially designated breakfast, lunch, and dinner hours, describing the situation as unacceptable and a serious failure in service delivery.

He said these disruptions have made it difficult for households to prepare meals, forcing many families to rely on costly alternative energy sources at a time of already high inflation.

The spokesperson further highlighted that similar issues persist in gas-producing districts such as Ghotki and Shikarpur, where residents continue to face low pressure and unannounced load-shedding despite contributing significantly to the country’s natural gas production.

He noted that this has deepened a sense of deprivation among local communities who feel they are not receiving fair access to resources extracted from their own regions.

Hemnani stressed that the burden of the ongoing crisis is disproportionately affecting ordinary citizens, adding that there is a clear gap between official claims and ground realities regarding gas supply management.

Calling for urgent action, he urged the federal government and relevant authorities to intervene and ensure a transparent and consistent gas supply schedule, particularly during essential meal hours.

He emphasized that gas allocation and distribution fall under federal jurisdiction and said immediate corrective measures are necessary to restore public confidence and ease household hardship.
