Islamabad — A viral video circulating on social media platform X, claiming to show US Navy ships enforcing a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz amid tensions with Iran, has been confirmed as misleading and unrelated to current events.

The clip, widely shared since Monday and garnering significant online traction, was falsely presented as footage of ongoing US military operations. However, fact-checking investigations revealed that the video predates the current crisis.

A reverse image search traced the footage back to May 2022, indicating that it has no connection to the present situation involving the United States and Iran.

The misinformation spread comes amid heightened public interest following recent geopolitical developments, including a US naval blockade targeting Iranian ports after the collapse of high-level talks in Islamabad.

The tensions follow a broader conflict triggered earlier this year, with Pakistan playing a key diplomatic role in facilitating communication between Washington and Tehran. These efforts resulted in a temporary ceasefire on April 8 and led to marathon negotiations in Islamabad, although no final agreement was reached.

Despite ongoing diplomatic activity, misleading content on social media has added to confusion around the situation. Experts caution that unverified visuals and claims can distort public understanding, particularly during periods of geopolitical tension.

Authorities and analysts have urged users to rely on verified information from credible sources and to avoid sharing unconfirmed content.
