Islamabad — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday praised Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace and stability in the region during a telephone conversation with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
Trilateral strategic dialogue a window of hope
According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s continued support for Pakistan’s constructive diplomatic role, particularly in relation to the recently concluded US–Iran negotiations held in Islamabad.
The two sides exchanged views on developments emerging from the high-level talks, with both emphasizing that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path toward resolving regional disputes.
They also discussed a proposed Pakistan–China five-point peace initiative aimed at supporting peaceful resolution mechanisms and reducing tensions in the region.
In a separate meeting, the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong met Ishaq Dar in Islamabad, where discussions focused on outcomes and follow-up of the recent negotiations. The envoy reportedly commended Pakistan’s role in facilitating direct engagement between the United States and Iran.
Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to promoting dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred approach to regional peace and stability. Both sides reaffirmed the strength of the Pakistan–China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Office said Dar also chaired an internal meeting with Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch and senior officials to acknowledge their efforts during what has been described as the “Islamabad Talks.”
Officials were praised for their professionalism and coordination in facilitating the diplomatic engagement, which brought US and Iranian delegations together in Pakistan for high-level discussions.
The US–Iran negotiations, which took place after a brief but intense conflict period, ended without a final agreement, though officials from multiple sides have described the process as constructive and a step toward future engagement.
International reactions to Pakistan’s hosting role have been largely positive. US Vice President JD Vance praised Pakistan’s leadership and hospitality, while US President Donald Trump also acknowledged the role played by Pakistani leadership in facilitating dialogue.
Iranian representatives, including senior officials, also expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s efforts in bringing both sides to the negotiating table.
Diplomatic observers say the emerging coordination between Pakistan, China, and other regional actors signals growing international interest in sustaining dialogue and preventing further escalation.
