Rawalpindi, April 7, 2026: Pakistan’s military leadership strongly condemned recent Iranian missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia’s petrochemical and industrial complexes, terming them an “unnecessary escalation” that threatens ongoing mediation efforts to resolve the Middle East crisis.

The statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) followed the 274th Corps Commanders’ Conference (CCC) at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, where the army’s top brass expressed deep concern over the attacks in Saudi Arabia’s Jubail industrial city. The forum highlighted that restraint shown by Saudi Arabia so far has enabled diplomatic mediation, but unwarranted aggressions risk derailing peaceful resolution efforts.

The CCC also lauded the Pakistani government’s ongoing diplomatic initiatives, emphasizing the importance of restraint, dialogue, and de-escalation, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to “principled diplomacy and constructive engagement” as a responsible regional stakeholder.

Tensions in the Middle East escalated sharply after US and Israeli air strikes in February killed Iran’s then-supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior officials. Tehran retaliated with attacks on US military bases across Gulf countries, further widening the conflict. Pakistan has emerged as a key mediator, hosting a quadrilateral foreign ministers’ meeting in Islamabad with representatives from Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, gaining international recognition for its efforts.

The military leadership also reviewed Pakistan’s internal and external security environment. The CCC reaffirmed that all terrorist networks operating at the behest of external actors, including India, will be pursued relentlessly. The pace of Operation Ghazab Lil Haq, launched on February 27 in response to cross-border provocations, will continue until terrorist safe havens are neutralized and Afghan soil is no longer used against Pakistan.

The conference condemned “persistent disinformation, baseless allegations, and false flag narratives” attributed to India and expressed concern over human rights violations and extrajudicial killings in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

In his concluding remarks, Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir directed commanders to maintain the “highest standards of operational readiness, professionalism, and adaptability,” praising the armed forces for their unwavering commitment to Pakistan’s defence. Participants offered prayers for martyrs of the armed forces, law enforcement agencies, and innocent civilians, paying tribute to their sacrifices.

“Through the synergy of the government, armed forces, and the people, Pakistan continues to consolidate security gains, strengthen economic resilience, and enhance its regional and global standing,” Munir said.
