LIAQUATPUR – A devastating LPG cylinder explosion in a college van in Ahmedpur East has claimed the lives of two female students and left 19 others injured, ARY News reported.

The incident occurred in Liaquatpur while the van was transporting students from three private colleges back to their homes. Rescue teams quickly reached the scene and transferred the injured to nearby hospitals. Tragically, 19-year-old Tayyaba Abbas and 17-year-old Ujala later died from their injuries. Four other students are in critical condition and are being treated at the Burn Unit of Nishtar Hospital in Multan.

Police have registered a terrorism case under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) at Saddar Police Station. The FIR names the principals of the three private colleges, their administrative staff, as well as the van’s owner and driver. Authorities allege the accused used an unsafe, poorly maintained LPG-powered vehicle to cut costs, putting students’ lives at risk. Police are actively conducting raids to apprehend those responsible.

In a separate incident, a late-night gas cylinder explosion in Irum Colony, Mardan, led to the collapse of a two-storey house, killing six members of a single family and injuring two others. The powerful blast flattened the top floor of the home. Among the dead were a husband, wife, and four other relatives. Rescue officials responded swiftly, moving the injured and deceased to a nearby hospital for medical attention and identification.
