KARACHI – The Sindh government has announced a two-day public holiday in observance of Ashura. According to a notification issued by the Chief Secretary of Sindh, all public and private offices and educational institutions across the province will remain closed on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, corresponding to July 5 and 6, 2025.
However, essential services and government departments involved in managing processions and security duties will remain operational. The notification does not apply to employees in mandatory service roles.
Ashura, marking the 10th of Muharram, will be observed on July 6 across Pakistan with religious solemnity. The federal government had already declared a nationwide holiday on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.
To ensure peace and security during the holy month, special measures have been implemented across all provinces, including the enforcement of Section 144. In Sindh, a ban on pillion riding (motorcycle double riding) will also be in effect on both days.
