(Karachi ) Women today are making remarkable contributions in every field of life. These thoughts were expressed by Pakistan’s pride, IT expert, and renowned social activist Syeda Sonia Munawar while addressing a seminar on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
She stated that celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8 each year serves to acknowledge women’s rights, equality, and their efforts in various spheres of life. This day reminds us how crucial it is to provide equal rights and opportunities to women worldwide.
Syeda Sonia Munawar emphasized that women have achieved significant success in every sector, whether it be education, politics, science, business, or sports. However, in many societies, women still face discrimination and challenges, which require continuous struggle to overcome.
She stated that a developed society is only possible when women are given equal rights and respect, as they are the foundation of societal progress. Across Pakistan and the world, International Women’s Day is celebrated through seminars, rallies, and events to recognize women’s achievements and promote gender equality.
Syeda Sonia Munawar urged that governments, social organizations, and institutions must work together to empower women by providing more opportunities and ensuring their rights. She further added that Pakistani women are proving their skills in every field of life, and their role in the struggle for Pakistan’s independence is commendable.
She highlighted the contributions of Fatima Jinnah, Begum Ra’ana Liaquat Ali Khan, and Bi Amma in the Pakistan Movement. After independence, Benazir Bhutto (Pakistan’s first female Prime Minister), Arfa Karim Randhawa, Malala Yousafzai, Marium Mukhtiar, Dr. Abida Khokhar, RJ Rufina Somroo, Nergis Mavalvala, Samina Baig, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Lubna Mirza, and Syeda Gul Lalakh Rukh have made Pakistan proud on an international level.
She concluded by stating that March 8 is not just a day to celebrate women’s achievements but also a reminder of the challenges they still face worldwide. The struggle for gender equality, education, economic empowerment, and women’s rights continues.
She emphasized that if we seek true progress, we must ensure women’s participation at every level, as a strong and prosperous society is built on gender equality.
