KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar has taken notice of complaints filed by Chinese investors against the Sindh police, as reported by ARY News.
The investors approached the Sindh High Court (SHC), alleging harassment and extortion by local law enforcement. In response, the home minister directed Inspector General (IG) Sindh Police, Ghulam Nabi Memon, to launch an inquiry and assign a senior officer to oversee the investigation.
Lanjar emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the security of non-CPEC Chinese nationals in accordance with established protocols. He instructed police officials to identify any security shortcomings and address them promptly. Additionally, he highlighted the role of local sponsors in safeguarding their Chinese employees and urged them to keep authorities informed for proper security measures.
Earlier, Chinese investors submitted a petition to the SHC, accusing the police of demanding bribes from the airport to their residences and hindering their daily operations. The petition lists the Federal Ministry of Interior, Chief Secretary Sindh, IG Sindh Police, and the Chinese Consulate as respondents.
According to the investors, they were invited to Pakistan by top leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, but are now facing continuous challenges.
The SHC has taken cognizance of the matter and issued notices to all respondents, directing them to submit their replies within four weeks.
