Former president and senior PTI leader Arif Alvi met with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman at his residence in Islamabad on Tuesday.

Islamabad: Former President Arif Alvi of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) met with JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad on Tuesday. They discussed proposed changes to the constitution while the ruling PML-N-led coalition faces challenges in moving forward with its plans.

The meeting included key figures like PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and other important leaders. They reviewed the government’s proposed amendments aimed at reforming the constitutional framework. Alvi congratulated Rehman for his earlier comments during parliamentary discussions.

This meeting is significant because the ruling coalition has struggled to pass its amendment package. Rehman has become a major obstacle, refusing to support the changes due to concerns about their secretive handling. His party holds crucial votes that the coalition needs.

Recently, the government’s attempt to present the amendment bill failed after it could not gather enough support. Opposition leaders criticized the government for trying to rush the process without proper discussion.

The proposed amendments include creating a Federal Constitutional Court and changing how votes from lawmakers who switch parties are counted. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif defended these changes as necessary to fix issues in the judiciary.

As the government plans to reintroduce the bill, political uncertainty continues without Rehman’s support.
