The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning about a potential cyclone developing over the Rann of Kutch in India, expected to reach the Sindh coast by tonight or early tomorrow. Currently, a deep depression about 270 kilometers southeast of Karachi, the system is forecasted to strengthen into a cyclonic storm as it moves west/southwest.
The PMD predicts widespread rain and thunderstorms across Sindh, including Karachi, Tharparkar, Badin, and Hyderabad, with some areas experiencing heavy downpours until August 31. Sea conditions are expected to be very rough, with winds gusting up to 60 km/hour. Fishermen are advised to stay ashore until the end of the month.
In response, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has urged local authorities to be prepared for any emergencies. He has instructed the health department to improve hospital readiness and the fisheries department to ensure fishermen’s safety. Recent reports indicate significant rainfall, with Tharparkar receiving 347 millimeters and Karachi 190 millimeters.
