Karachi: The 14th International Biennial Conference was organized by the Pakistan Society for Microbiology in collaboration with Salim Habib University in Karachi. The conference included lectures on various topics, scientific exhibition, oral and poster presentations of research papers by foreign and local experts.
A three-day conference hosted by the Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Science at Salim Habib University was held from November 22 to 24 on the theme of Disasters, Epidemics, and Public Health Challenges for Microbiologists. The conference included scientific sessions, hands-on workshops, keynote lectures, scientific exhibitions, and oral and poster presentations of research papers by foreign and local experts. More than 400 delegates from Pakistan and foreign educational and research institutions participated in the conference, including participants from Lebanon, Jamaica, Iran, Australia, America and other countries. The chief guest of the opening ceremony of the conference was Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Pakistan Prof. Dr. Kauser Abdullah Malik, while the chief guest of the closing ceremony was Chairman Board of Commissioners of Sindh Health Commission Dr. Khalid Hussain Sheikh.
Dr. Khalid Hussain Sheikh, while addressing the ceremony, assured the microbiologist of the Sindh Health Commission of its full support. Prof. Dr. Farhan Essa Abdullah, Patron In Chief of Pakistan Society for Microbiology, and CEO of Dr. Essa Laboratory and Diagnostic Center, Prof. Dr. President of Pakistan Society for Microbiology and Chairperson FIBC-PSM 2023 Shahana Arooj Kazmi and Prof. Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Khan, Vice Chancellor Saleem Habib University also addressed the audience during the event and told about the importance of the conference.
On this occasion, Vice-Professor Dr. Fateh Mohammad Marri, Vice-Chancellor of Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam and Prof. Dr. Mujaddin-ur-Rehman, Vice-Chancellor of Abbottabad University of Science and Technology KPK expressed their views in the conference.
In the inaugural function, Dr. Rana Jawad Asghar, CEO, Global Health Strategists and Implementers (GHSI) Pakistan and Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology, University of Nebraska Medical Center, USA delivered the Dr. Ahmed Ali Anwar Memorial Lecture. Prof. Dr. Aqeel Ahmed, Dean, Faculty of Science, Salim Habib University and Secretary FIBC-PSM 2023 delivered the vote of thanks. Prof. Dr. Johar Ali, Vice Chancellor, Osmania Institute of Technology University, Karachi, Prof. Dr. Saeed Khan, Chairman, Department of Molecular Pathology, DOW University were also present. Health Sciences, Karachi, and Dr. Qaiser Waheed, CEO, Medizan Pharma were also present on the occasion.
The program of the conference also included a musical evening and a dinner hosted by Honorary Chancellor of Salim Habib University, Dr. Iram Afaq. In which Muhammad Abbas Executive Director Finance SHU from Salim Habib University and Chief Operating Officer of Salim Habib Education Foundation, Professor Dr. Kaleem Raza Khan, Registrar, Dr. Muhammad Hussain Habib, Executive Director Education, Marketing, HR & Admin, Dr. Arshad Mehmood, Chairperson, Department of Biosciences, and university directors, deans, heads of departments, chairpersons, faculty, students, and staff attended.
